Icon of the Seas is currently one of the two biggest cruise ships in the world by gross tonnage. Official Royal Caribbean figures list the ship at 248,663 GT, with 20 total decks, 18 guest decks, 2,805 staterooms, a length of 1,196 feet/ 364 metres, a beam of 219 feet/ 66 metres, and a draft of 29 feet/ 9 metres. Its deadweight tonnage (DWT) is listed by Vessel Finder at 21,513 tonnes. 

When was built
Royal Caribbean states that Icon of the Seas officially joined the fleet in November 2023, and its maiden voyage took place on January 27, 2024. 

Where was built and how long it took
The ship was built at Meyer Turku in Turku, Finland. Royal Caribbean says construction lasted 900 days, beginning with the first steel cut in June 2021 before completion in late 2023. That puts the core construction period at roughly two and a half years. 

Passengers capacity
Icon of the Seas carries 5,610 passengers at double occupancy and around 2,350 crew. That means total persons onboard can exceed 7,900 when the ship is operating near full standard capacity.

Like Icon, Star of the Seas was built at Meyer Turku in Turku, Finland. Royal Caribbean says construction began with the first steel cut in February 2023 and that the ship completed nearly two years of construction before handover in July 2025.

Star of the Seas also carries 5,610 guests at double occupancy and approximately 2,350 crew.

A main current Star of the Seas itinerary is the 7 Night Eastern Caribbean & Perfect Day round trip from Orlando (Port Canaveral), Florida. Even so, it remains one of the biggest cruise ships ever built and still ranks in the global top three by gross tonnage.

Royal Caribbean lists Utopia of the Seas at 236,473 GT, with 18 total decks, 16 guest decks, 2,834 staterooms, a length of 1,188 feet/ 362 metres, a beam of 211 feet/ 64 metres, and a draft of 30 feet/ 9 metres. VesselFinder lists its DWT at 17,908 tonnes. Its gross tonnage is higher than Wonder of the Seas at 235,600 GT, which is why Utopia holds the No. 3 spot. 

When was built
Utopia of the Seas was delivered in June 2024, and its maiden voyage took place on July 19, 2024. 

Where was built and how long it took
The ship was built at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France. Construction records published by the shipyard show steel cutting on April 5, 2022 and delivery in June 2024, while Royal Caribbean described the project as taking more than two years of construction. 

Passengers capacity
Utopia of the Seas carries 5,668 guests at double occupancy and about 2,290 crew. 

Which route it is using
Utopia is mainly deployed on short round trips from Orlando (Port Canaveral), Florida. A representative current itinerary is the 4 Night Bahamas & Perfect Day route: Port Canaveral – Nassau, Bahamas – Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas – sea day – Port Canaveral. Royal Caribbean also runs 3-night Bahamas and Perfect Day sailings on the same ship. 

Length of a route
Its main cruise lengths are 3 nights and 4 nights, making it very different from Icon and Star, which focus on weeklong itineraries.

A currently listed official starting fare for Utopia’s 4 Night Bahamas & Perfect Day Cruise is from $449 per person. Another current listing shows from $570 per person for a 3 Night Bahamas & Perfect Day Cruise. These are starting fares only, and optional shore excursions are separate.
